So many people quietly carry the belief that they are just not coping very well.
They tell themselves they should be able to handle more.
They think they are being lazy, unmotivated, or not trying hard enough.
But what I see, over and over again, is something very different.
I see nervous systems that are overwhelmed.
When you have been under stress for a long time — emotional stress, life stress, work stress, family stress, or even past experiences that were never fully processed — your body adapts by staying on alert.
This is often called “fight or flight”, but for many people it becomes a constant background state. It becomes normal.
You might notice this as:
always feeling on edge
being easily startled or irritated
finding it hard to relax, even when you have time
shallow breathing or tightness in the chest
clenching your jaw or shoulders without realising
feeling wired but tired
difficulty switching your mind off at night
Over time, this doesn’t feel like stress anymore. It just feels like you.
But it isn’t.
It’s your nervous system doing its best to protect you by staying alert.
The problem is that the body was never designed to stay in this state long-term. Eventually, it becomes exhausted. Foggy. Flat. Overwhelmed.
And this is often when people start blaming themselves.
They think:
“I should be able to handle this.”
“Why can’t I just relax?”
“What’s wrong with me?”
Nothing is wrong with you.
Your body has simply forgotten how to feel safe enough to switch off.
This is why gentle modalities like Reiki, sound healing, and frequency work can be so powerful. They don’t ask you to “try harder” or “think differently”. They allow the body to experience a state of safety and calm that it may not have felt in a very long time.
From that place, the nervous system can begin to reset.
And when that happens, everything starts to feel lighter.
If you’ve been feeling like you’re not coping as well as you should, please know — this isn’t a personal failing.
It’s a sign that your body is asking for support.
And that support can be very gentle.
